Arthur George William (Bill) Sparrow, 1896-1967, was the founder and manager of S.I.P.
The Ponsonby Post Office was built in 1912. In 2002 New Zealand Post moved out and the building was taken over by Christchurch-based Colibri Holdings. The tower and clock remain in public ownership and are maintained by the Auckland City Council.
