Subject Notes
Enos Peglar was born in Gloucestershire, England c1869 and came to New Zealand with his family on the Baron Aberdare in March 1875. His first studio appears to have been in Onehunga, but he also established outlets for photographic supplies in Auckland, Palmerston North and Taumarunui. He married Miss E. E. Oldham of Tuakau in 1892, and later moved to Palmerston North, then Papatoetoe in 1907. At the time of his death on 13 October 1938, he was living in Manurewa. He was a member of the New Zealand Bowling team that toured Great Britain in 1921 and wrote a book about the tour. A series of glass plate negatives (4-5592 to 4-5639), found under a house in Green Lane, appear to be by Pegler. See NZ Photo Goods Store J F Pegler, Onehunga, listed as exhibiting at the Auckland Industrial and Mining 1898.
