The government steamer, Hinemoa, used to service the lighthouses of New Zealand. In 1902 permission was granted by the Marine Department to travel on the Hinemoa. The trip started out from Auckland in August, on to Tiritiri Matangi, up to Whangaroa, around Cape Reinga and down the west coast to Kaipara. Winkelmann : images of New Zealand / Vivien Edwards.
