Elizabeth Pulman took over the business of her husband, George, after his death in 1871. George Pulman had specialised in Maori portraiture, and the range and variety of his work was extended by his wife and son Fredrick, with the aid of family friend and studio manager George Albert Steel. The business was sold in 1900
