Jungle green shadows : Victor 2 company 2 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) battalion : Vietnam 1967-1968

documentary heritage
  • Description

"Jungle Green Shadows records the service of Victor 2 Company in 1967-68 during the Vietnam War as part of 2 RAR, 1st Australian Task Force. The company deployed to Vietnam on 12 November 1967 and, in February 1968, found themselves in the thick of war. The Tet 68 offensive created a cauldron of enemy activity as the VC and NVA launched their countrywide offensive against 100 towns, cities and military bases in the South.

This story records the desperate battles that followed, culminating in the largest attack against an independent New Zealand infantry company since the Second World War. This was the most violent period of the War. The soldiers' experiences are told factually and with typical Kiwi humour and understatement. Veterans' anecdotes illustrate this journey from pre-deployment to returning home. An unusual aspect is the inclusion of PTSD and similar issues as veterans, their wives and children strove to cope with the indifference shown towards their service and toxic reception back in New Zealand."--jacket.
