    In flight (Alternate title)

  • Description

"In Flyte surveys highlights from the past fifteen years of Niki Hastings-McFall's creative practice. The exhibition showcases the full scope of her art practice from her seminal lei and light box series to her more recent diorama and lamp series. Cross-cultural translation has been a central concern throughout Hastings-McFall's artistic career.

Her work is essentially urban and biographical and is shaped by her research into, and encounters with, her dual Samoan and pakeha heritage. Born in Titirangi, Auckland, Hastings-McFall was raised by her European grandparents and first met her Samoan father in 1992. A key figure in the contemporary Pacific art scene Hastings-McFall's work draws attention to the cultural stereotypes of the Pacific within contemporary culture, including the influence of Christianity in Samoan culture."--Publisher description.
