      Methodist magazine of Tupou College, first published in 1875, Nuku'alofa. Tongan was first written by missionaries in the early C19th using various spelling systems.       "14 Feb 1866, Moulton opened the "Native Training Institution & District Training Institute" at Nukualofa. This was renamed Tupou College in 1869. Moulton translated books for each subject into Tongan language. Tevita Mohenoa, was the first head tutor. In 1870 women admitted as students. The first Tongan principal was Siupeli Taliai.

      In 1873 the school motto was introduced, "Ko Tonga Mo'unga ki he Loto = a Tongan stronghold is his mind."

      Later Moulton spent 2-3 years in Great Britain translating Scriptures for Tongan Wesleyans. His books were published by the College's press."--Latu, P. (2011). Fakaongo and Tau'ataina.
