Historic Auckland and Northland (Alternate title)

The earliest European interest in New Zealand began in the north of the country, especially in the Bay of Islands. Within a few decades, however, the focus shifted south to the Waitemata Harbour, where New Zealand's largest urban area began as a collection of temporary huts and tents on the foreshore.
