    'The Aucklander, a vigorous bi-weekly, was established on 2 May 1861 by James Busby (who was the British Resident at the Bay of Islands from 1833) to advocate his claims to land in the north. He took as the motto of his crusade "Not party but truth". James Hosking (father of the Hon. Sir John Hosking) was his printer and publisher.--Newspapers in New Zealand, page 82.
