Nga pikituroa o Ngai Tahu : the oral traditions of Ngai Tahu

documentary heritage
  • Description

The Ngai Tahu story is one of migration from the North Island of New Zealand to the north of the South Island, and the occupation of lands further south. The questions the author addresses are how, why and by whom the tribe's traditions were formed, and how they might be unravelled to understand Ngai Tahu's past.

Edited version of the author's Ph.D. thesis, University of Canterbury, 1997. Includes bibliographical references (pages [291]-314) and index.
