      Much is adapted from the author's 'Official Handbook' of 1883-84, to which his name was not attached. Account of the Taranaki War and its policy. An excellent precis of history, colonial policy, industries, and land regulations--Hocken, p. 389 "Attempt at a 'simple and comprehensive account of New Zealand ... its conditions, its resources and its capabilities' with emphasis on historical background.
