Captain Cook's Florilegium : a note on its production

documentary heritage
  • Description

Describes the production of "an out-of-series limited edition of a selection of plates engraved after Captain Cook's first voyage ... on his first voyage to Australia in 1768 he took with him two great naturalists, Sir Joseph Banks and Dr Solander, and a botanical draughtsman, Sydney Parkinson.

The original sketches made during the voyage were turned into detailed and accurate paintings by artists in England and engravings were then made under the direction of Sir Joseph Banks."--Page 5.
