    New Zealand troopship magazine. Edited by E.B. Moore Inscription on front cover: R.S. Herrick. On the Tears on Greenstone memorial at Waiouru, Roy Somerville Herrick is listed as Second Lieutenant, 4 Field Regiment, NZ Artillery, and his place and date of death listed as Crete, February 6 1941, aged 26 years. Prior to enlisting he was a traffic officer. Z1 formed part of the convoy which carried troops of the First Echelon of 2NZEF (354 officers and 6175 other ranks).

    They embarked on 5 January 1940 for the Middle East in "Empress of Canada", "Strathaird", "Orion" and "Rangitata" at Wellington, and in "Dunera" and "Sobieski" at Lyttelton. The convoy reached Port Tewfik (Suez) on 12 February 1940 and the troops disembarked and entrained for Maadi Camp.
