The Visionary

documentary heritage
  • Description

In The Visionary, created by Elizabeth Serjeant and with the assistance of Riemke Ensing, Serjeant invited ten poets to write on the theme of The Visionary, then created lithographs in response to each poem. These were printed from stones by Joan Taylor and Beth in a limited edition of 50 copies. The 10 lithographic prints in The Visionary won the 1989 BNZ Art Award at the NZ Academy of Fine Arts, the first artist’s book to gain such an honour.
