    mottled creamed and black horn, hollowed; wooden plug at base with leather piece nailed to plug surface; carved suspension rings at base and tip; ribbed carving leading to tip; scrimshaw illustrations: design of cannon with Royal Artillery motto on scroll above cannon: QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT / UBIQUE; text on either side of cannon: CAPE OF GOOD HOPE AFRICA / R. RINTOUL ROYAL ARTILLERY, date below on left: 1847; below all is design of serpent with branches.
