    Split whale's teeth neck ornament (Fijian)

  • Description

    Waseisei. Whale tooth necklace. Consisting of twenty whale teeth, honey yellow/ivory in colour. Each tooth is long, narrow, and curved in shape with a pointed end. Bored at their bases, and threaded onto a cord woven from magimagi (coconut fibre). Cracks, dark brown/black in colour are visible across the teeth. Brown coloured markings and scratches are visible across some of the teeth. One tooth has broken off.
