    shot horn

    small powder horn; surface worked, pale body with dark tip; wooden butt, secured with nails; hollow interior with [lead] lining; hand carved text on body: HILDEBRAND / ROBIN H S. 01 / SIEGFRIED / FOLKER; given to donor by Lemuel Meiklejohn when he was seventeen years of age, who with five others drowned in the Hauraki Gulf when the schooner "Rapid" capsized on Sunday 22nd. March 1864.
