      In dense 'dry' Metrosideros kermadecensis / Rhopalostylis baueri forest. Growing on a semi-stable erosion shute below road. Forming shrubs up to 3 m tall, branches pendulous in upper third. Leaves dark green, glossy notably smaller than New Zealand populations of C. arborea var. arborea. All plants seen flowering.
