Abundant along trackside and ecotone of old picnic area. Growing in full exposed, sunny sites. Associated with Bryum billardierei var. platyloma, Dicranoloma billardierei, Thuidium furfurosum, Ptychomnion aciculare, Leucobryum javense, Hypnum cupressiforme var. cupressiforme, manuka (Kunzea aff. ericoides (b)), kahikatoa (Leptospermum aff. scoparium (a)), mingimingi (Leucopogon fasciculatus) and prickly mingimingi (Leptecophylla juniperina subsp. juniperina).
