    Sectioned German aeroplane [Zeppelin] bomb, WW1

    Donors served during WW1: 2nd Lieut. WW Averill 13/2278 enlisted with the Auckland Mounted Rifles and served as a Chaplain, while his brother 2nd Lieut. Leslie CL Averill 46219, served with the NZ Rifle Brigade [1918-1919]. receiving the Military Cross for bravery at Bapaume, and was later the first New Zealander to Averill was the first to enter the town of Le Quesnoy from a scaling ladder. In Le Quesnoy Averill helped round up over 700 prisoners.
