This object was made in eastern Papua New Guinea. The donor lived in the area as a priest for 25 years, spoke the local language and travelled the surrounding area. This object is a good example of contemporary expression of traditional art forms, as well as pieces that the indigenous populations of PNG regard as important representations of their culture and heritage.
