    Frequent to occsaional shrubs to 2m tall on edges of kanuka scrub, also occsionally further seaward in tussockland of Austroderia splendens, Ficinia nodosa, Carex testacea. Specimen heavily in fruit, purple-black, many withered and dry (2013 driest Jan-Feb in 50 yrs). Plants occur along pine plantation edge from 36 45' 52.69"S - 174 23' 20.00"E south to 36 46'13.60"S - 174 23'39.40E, a distance of c.800m. Not seen further south despite systematic searchers
