  • Field Collection Notes
    Large spreading tree, with gracefully drooping branches. Ht ca 20m, DBH 75cm. Trunk branching into 5 very upright close trunks at ca 3m. Bark intact, hard. Young wood mid-brown, shiny with new branchlets covered in fine haris. Leaves mid-green and very glossy, with fine hairs on margins, petioles, and veins. More in apices of veins on underside. Buds enclosed in golden-brown scales.
    Sth side of mod sloping hillside, tall forest sitn. Canopy tree. Some shading, mostly sunny.
    Common beech.
