Field Collection Notes
Tall, erect tree, trunk branching in 2 at 1.3m. Ht ca 15m, dbh 45.5cm. Bark dark grey-brown, wood v. v. hard. Branches crooked. Mod. narrow canopy of beautiful red-brown leaves, becoming redder higher up tree. Branchlets hold leaves out on horizontal plane. Lf glossy, smooth with fine silky hairs on upperside and margins. Pale brown bud bracts hanging beneath lf axils.
Growing on steep creekbank, SE facing slope. Afternoon shade.
Copper Beech.
