      New Zealand, North Island, Gisborne Land District, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, E4, Left hand side of entrance gates, adj to road

      Tall spreading tree with 4 main trunks each dividing into 4 or 5. Ht ca 15m. DBH at 1m, below branching, 1m. Very many nearly upright branches, and those at base spreading. Twiggy. Mod-dense canopy. Bark dark grey-brown, rough, cracked into small chunks. New wood shiny brown, but branchlets downy. Leaves dark green glossy upper, paler grey-green downy underside. Petioles downy. Leaves alternate. Leaf shape variable. Very few acorns present, pointed tip with small cap.
      Semi-open situation on Southern edge of EWH forest, open to South and Southwest. Shady in morning.
