Grown as Q. decipiens, syn Q. rugosa. Evergreen tree, 10m tall. Bark pale grey, scaly, orange-brown beneath. Lvs rigid, dark green above with pale brown tomentum beneath. Young lvs and shoots deep red. Wild collected: Berry 8497, near Tlalmanalco, Mexico State.
