    New Zealand, North Island, Gisborne Land District, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, J7, the Fountain, just above gate, Yunnan Walk

  • Field Collection Notes
    Conical tree with more rounded apex, Ht ca 14m, DBH 56.5cm, with trunk dividing in 2 at 6m. No branches below 4m. Many branched, twiggy, branches horizontal or drooping. Foliage mod-dense. Bark mid-brown, rough-hammered looking, coming off in multilayered irregular chunks. Gum exuding. Needles dark green, glossy, in 2's, facing nearly upright. Young female cones green, growing singly or in 2 opp each other at ends of branchlets. Male cones, catkin-like to 6.5cm tall, curved near apex.
    Open forest situation open to the North. Sunny, sheltered from South. On edge of boggy patch with rushes.
    Hickory pine.
