    New Zealand, North Island, Gisborne Land District, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, J8, in small garden beside gate at beginning on Yunnan Walk, at junction of Douglas Cook Walk

  • Field Collection Notes
    Small shrub 1.3m tall. Upright stems from which branches come away horizontally. Opposite branching. Leaves opposite, mid-green, finely toothed margins. Upper side of leaf pubescent. Lower mid-vein lined with fine golden hairs, esp. at base. Leaves paler green below purple "Foxglove-like" flower, 2-2.5cm long. Sepals browny-red with flower 1cm above. Sweetly scented. Some white inside, orange speckles, fine hairs upperside. 4 creamy anthers inside flower - lying alongside stigma on lower side of flower.
