    New Zealand, North Island, Gisborne Land District, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, G10, along driveway to Curator's house

    Small tree with arching cane-like growth from trunk broken at 2m. Many branching, twiggy. Ht ca 4m. Old bark mid-brown, peeling in strips. Leaves mid-green, glossy, alt, red at point of attachment of petiole to branch. Flowers in panicle at end of branches. Flowers sweetly scented, white, 5 petalled. Petals round, slightly cupped, with tall upright stamens; yellow anthers.
    Small clearing in tall forest situation. Some shading. Sheltered.
