    New Zealand, North Island, Gisborne Land District, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, opposite Crook's Wall, just past junction from Education Centre

  • Field Collection Notes
    Spreading medium tree, ~7m tall, 4 trunked, each trunk branching 2/3 from top. Leaves mid-green, matt upperside, paler underside. Yellow centre vein. Leaves alternate, 17-18cm long, lanceolate. Flowers borne in clusters, 3-4 in leaf axil. Flowers small, green. Seed heads lobed, green, maturing to brown. Eight bright orange seeds inside. Bark peeling off in large strips.
    Suckers coming up from base of tree. Foliage of sucker quite different to mature foliage. Leaves large, soft, ovate to oval, with yellow mid-rib.
    Open situation; partially shaded by tall Sequoia.
