    [Original det:] Malus sylvestris 'Montreal Beauty'.
    Straggly, small tree, 5 trunked, with 4 of the older trunks appearing to be dying, but with new branches growing from them, and from base. Ht ca 4m. Spreading, with pale grey-brown bark. New wood glossy green-brown. Flowers pure white, 5 broadly oval petals, opening flat. Sweetly scented. Numerous upright white stamens, creamy anthers. Buds faintly pink-blushed. Flowers in upright clusters of up to 8, on short branchlets. New leaves covered soft hairs.
    Small, North facing opening in tall forest. Mid-day sun. Sheltered slope above creek, in valley.
