    New Zealand, North Island, Gisborne Land District, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, Turihaua Park, bottom left hand tree nearest Canaan

    V. old tree with gnarled, hollow trunk, main trunk leaning uphill. Ht ca 7m. DBH 74.5cm. Branches drooping to ground or spreading, dense, twiggy. Old bark mid-brown, ridged, rough. Lvs at ends of curved branchlets, dk green glossy upper with oil glands and midvein indented along petiole too. Under paler. Flower buds pale green in leaf axils. Few small white 5 petalled flowers, purple spots in throat, fine hairs on inner surface. Petals fused midway. Entire corolla falls off when flower spent.
    Open, sunny situation on steep SE facing slope. One of several remnants of historical East Coast native forest.
