      Zanthoxylum simulans? = Z. bungei.
      Many trunked small tree, 5-6m tall, 1-8 trunks per tree. Trunks covered in big pricks with sharp point, flattened. Bark white patched over brown. Spreading, open form. Leaves mid-green, smooth, matt, pinnate, 5-9 leaflets per leaf. Margins serrate. Paler green beneath. Round pink-red small fruit, surface bobbled - strongly smelling. Black shiny seed inside.
      Prickly ash.
