    New Zealand, North Island, Northland, Matapouri, track leading to Whale Bay near Edgewater Place, in regenerating native bush fragment adjacent to pasture.

    Apparently self seeded into native bush fragment. No other specimens seen on this trip. Vibrant purple colour on the underside of newly emerging leaves - older growth light green on underside. Tree approx. 2m tall, growing exposed on track edge near older specimens of Vitex lucens and shrubby Leptospermum scoparium and Pteridium esculentum.
