      Promoted by the Wellington Railway men, as a form of entertainment to raise funds for the relief of the starving Belgians. World Jiu-Jitsu champion, Captain Leopold M'Laglen, applied the technique to modern warfare and trained the New Zealand Expenditionary Force at Trentham Camp.
