Note on back of mount: Emden beached and done for, 9 Nov 1914. The famous German raiding cruiser Emden happened to descend on the Cocos Islands when the first convoy was only 50 miles away. HMAS Sydney was detached from the escort and after 1hr. 40 mins. fighting, she drove the Emden aground at North Keeling Island and sent out the historic signal "Emden beached and done for".
