    Reconstruction, based on archaeological evidence, of Maori fishing village at Kendall Bay with the fortified village,or headland pa, on the prominance of Kauri Point behind. Picture shows the fishing catch being brought ashore from the canoes, fish drying on racks and the method of fish oil extraction through funnels made from flax. Midden deposits of local estuarine shellfish are seen in the foreground.
