This example was made in Niue using kieto (ebony) which is a highly sought-after hardwood. The club is carved with a fluted, bulbous head that flares out from a long cylindrical shaft which is gripped in the hand. The club is dark in colour and has a shiny surface treatment although there is surface wear.WāhiNiueAccession Number1931.580Rā Tāpiringa16 Nov 1931Tohu Tuakiri Kē16868 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete club, 1931.580, 16868, Photographed by Richard Ng, digital,… … Read more Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 1931.580, 16868Takenga ā-AhureaNiueanKaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)WāhiNiueRāPre 1931Tikanga WaihangacarvedWaitohu/māka16886 (handwritten) NIUE H.G.
