This is an ili made of tuaaniu (coconut midrib), kaumoe (immature coconut leaf), and fulu kaleva (kaleva feathers). The tuaaniu forms a frame for the blade as well as the handle. Dyed kaumoe is then lashed decoratively around the frame to form the ili. The handle is rectangular while the blade is circular. The kaumoe has been dyed purple, pink as well as orange before it is used to form an intricate design around the blade. White fulu kaleva are threaded around the ili to form a decorative border. This type of ili was made as a collectible item for the tourist trade.Wāhi[Tuvalu]/PacificAccession Number1987.78Rā Tāpiringa28 Apr 1987Tohu Tuakiri Kē52431 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Ili, 1987.78, 52431, Cultural Permissions Apply Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 1987.78, 52431Takenga ā-Ahurea[Tuvaluan]Kaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)Wāhi[Tuvalu]/PacificRāPre 1970sTikanga Waihangawoven lashedWaitohu/māka52431 (handwritten)Pāohococonut (fibre)/plant fibre/natural fibre/fibre[feather]/animal materialRaraunga Ine320mm255mm20mmHuinga KaupapaFibrework/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Featherwork/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūFanPersonal Assistive ArtefactsPersonal GearPersonal ArtefactsWhakahounga o Mua06 Oct 2023 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
