It has been woven from lau fā (pandanus leaf). It is rectangular in shape and flat in form. The edge of the opening has been woven to form a straight edge. It appears a single kavei (handle) was originally attached to the central areas of the inside of the kato pesi. However, they have fractured leaving one side with a loose short part hanging by a fibrous strand. The lalaga (weave) of the kato pesi shows a plain-woven format. Both the front and back show mata pelē (patterns). The mata pelē portray a symmetrical triangular, geometric motif that has been defined by black dyed strands of lau fā that have been applied externally.WāhiNiueAccession Number1978.103Rā Tāpiringa1978Tohu Tuakiri Kē48328.1 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Kato pesi, 1978.103, 48328.1, Photographed by Richard Ng,… … Read more Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, 1978.103, 48328.1Takenga ā-AhureaNiueanWāhiNiueRāPre 1978Tikanga Waihangawoven handwovenWaitohu/māka48328.3; NIUE (handwritten)Pāohopandanus (leaf)/leaf (plant material)/plant materialRaraunga Ine180mm170mmHuinga KaupapaBasketry/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Fibrework/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūBasketContainerDistribution & Transportation ArtefactsWhakahounga o Mua16 Sep 2019 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
