    cartridge belt and pouch from Ohaeawai Battlefield; case appears to be consistent with cartridge boxes that Maori made and used; dark wooden base with 18 compartments for cartridges, two compartments have paper inside; dark leather flap, secured with staples at reverse; raw leather strap sewn to flap with twine, appears to have been a later addition to object, potentially cut from a trouser belt as buckle punctures are evident; strap secures flap; strap has rectangle cut out, fastens to leather strip with knot nailed beneath wooden base; brass starburst badge with eight points is fixed to front of flap; base has three leather belt loops, two at the front, under the flap, and one at the left side, additional loop appears to be missing from right side, indicative puncture holes present in wood; front left belt loop appears to be cut from scrap leather, inconsistent with remaining loops; dark leather belt with [brass] buckle, belt fastened at second largest hole; four cartridges are associated with the case, snider rounds, .2 and .3 are live, .4 and .5 are shells; all have [brass] shells; .2 and .3 have brown paper wrapped around the shell, red line around the circumference of the paper, .3 has worn paper, both have lead bullet inside; .4 brass shell with brown paper wrapped round it, with red line; .5 only brass shell.
