    mat, fine. plaited pandanus. finely woven pandanus fringe ornamented with red feathers. These mats form the marriage portion of the women and are used as a sort of currency. Purchased from Seu-man-tafa, the chief of Apia. General name for fine mats is 'ie toga, the finest are called 'ie taua.
