Kali. Headrest. Kali are wooden pillows or headrests that are placed under the head or nape of the neck whilst sleeping or lying down. There are different types of kali that vary in construction as well as the materials used. This is a Kali Toloni, which is carved from toa wood (iron wood) and a rich brown in colour. It is made up of three different parts, the headrest bar as well as the two legs.

The headrest itself is cylindrical in shape, the legs are arched in an inverted U shape with a V indentation at the top to accommodate for the cylindrical headrest to sit upon. It is further secured into place with plaited pulu'i niu (coconut husk).
