    Fan (English)

  • Description

Iliili. Fan. This is a hand held iliili. Its blade is circular in shape and flat in form. It also features a handle that extends across the diameter of the blade. The handle has been encased with a woven cover of lau fā (pandanus leaf) dyed in green and pink. The circular blade is made up of a continuous circular structure that has been encased with lau fā (pandanus) through a knotting technique. It is mostly pale yellow in colour, a natural tone of the fibre.

However a green circle has been woven through the centre area of the blade. A looped fringe of lau fou (lace bark) borders the edges of the blade. It is made up of green, pink and blue dyed fibres. The woven encasement of the handle has also been woven into the blade to secure both components into place.
