teacosy

human history
  • Description

large Victorian teacosy of traditional curved form decorated with a bold geometric pattern worked in coloured wools and glass beads on canvas; different design to front and back; the front featuring large interlocking lozenge shapes in dark colours such as indigo, forest green, wine and ochre separated by black 'lines' formed of small black squares; within each lozenge is another smaller, worked in circular glass beads - either all white, all gold, all silver/clear or all opalescent.

The reverse in similar colours but worked in large squares separated by ochre lines; each square containing five small crosses worked in coloured beads (each cross in same colour) either all white, gold, silver/clear, opalescent, green, red, black or blue; lined in deep pink cotton.

Note - the teacosy appears to be covering another cosy which can be seen through a large loss to front; original cosy is of fine olive green wool felt with narrow cord stitched either side of a traditional braidwork design stamped in black.
