Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved and polished from single piece of pohatu maori (dark stone). A simple grip at the head of the pounder, body is conical in shape (narrow at the neck and wider on the base). The pounding surface on the base is rounded. Dark in colour.
