    Adze, Hafted (English)

  • Description

    Toki tarai. Hafted adze (but adze is loose). A highly polished toki (adze - triangular in cross section) once hafted to a long, wooden haft but now loose. Still stored with the haft. Wooden haft shaped from a section of tree branch. PIece of cord tied around the middle of the haft. Lashing of puru akari (braided coconut sennit) of a flat iri taki toru (3-ply braid) lashed on to the top of the haft to secure the adze.

    No carved surface decoration on the haft itself which is natural in colour. The lashing is natural in colour and the toki (adze) is dark grey in colour.
