Fan (English)

Iri. Fan. Woven in a coiled technique from voivoi (pandanus) strands over a titi (mangrove reed) frame, incorporating dyed vau (hibiscus bast) for decorative effect. Handle of shaped natural coloured wood split to its midway point. Coiled fibre blade is wedged down securely between the split wood and wrapped together with additional strip of vau. The three colours of the dyed vau are dranilami (lamb's blood), dark brown, and black.
