    Stone pounder (English)

    Reru. Pounder. Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved from a single piece of … stalactite? Overall shape is conical, flared towards the base. Pounding surface at base is concave with a rounded edge. Reduction from base to form cylindrical grip. Top of the pounder has transverse protrusions with one slightly longer than the other. Mostly polished surface though with scratches and nicks from wear. Amber in colour with speckling colour on the base.

    Gifted by Dr. Peter Buck in 1927.
