Screwplate

human history
  • Kupu whakaahua

Steel screwplate, trapezium shaped, 36 holes .4 to 2.0 mm, numbered along base. Marked "BAUME / FRANCE" and "GARANTIE".

This screwplate has one row of double holes with a slot between them for cutting the thread. the other row does not cur, but is for smoothing and finishing the thread.

Even more than with gauges, screw threads have varied country to country and still do. Some threads have been peculiar to one manufacturer, area or trade. The variety of diameters and pitches seems almost endless. Screwplates, with a range of graduated sizes were commonly used for making, or repairing damaged screws in timepieces.
